P2P streaming fails too often

Postby holykim66 » Thu May 17, 2012 1:04 am

Hi,

P2P streaming fails too often and the session falls back to using the OpenTok servers.

It randomly failed with the same environment as it sometimes work, sometimes doesn't work. Can you please advise why P2P streaming fails too often?

Thanks in advance.

Harry

Hi there-

Are you testing on Windows machines? A common issue is firewalls, and win machines sometimes have them on by default (you can change this under Network Options)

When you say it sometimes works, do you wait till both publishers are publishing to each other? Sometimes the command+shift+click will say true at the beginning, but then it will fallback later in the call when it realizes that it is not going to work.

Thanks, but it is not a firewall issue.

Thanks John

Yes, it was true at the beginning, but then it changed to false. I have tested many times with different environment. Mostly P2P works fine but sometimes it fallback to the server connection in the same environment. There was no firewall or network issues. Please advise.

This could be because they couldn't establish a connection at that certain time. Can you give us the session ids and the dates when this happens? You can just create a few sessions, publish on both, leave it on for 15 seconds, and if they don't have p2p, record the session id and let us know.
